Individual and Institutional Accreditation

Coaching

For a coaching program to be accredited by ACMP, it must include a certain number of hours, depending on the general accreditation body the school plans to adhere. We typically accredit programs that are compliant with ICF or EMCC standards.

For a program to be considered, the curriculum must include constructivist theory and techniques and must be administered by accredited coaches. To apply for institutional accreditation, one must first be accredited as an individual member as a coach (see instructions below).

Individual membership

ACMP accepts individual members. To join, please email us your application that should include:

  1. Short CV

  2. Detailed description of your constructivist training, including the estimated total number of training hours with relevant diplomas and certificates.

Institutional Membership - Psychotherapy Training Programs

For an institute to be accredited by ACMP, its curriculum needs to be aligned with the requirements put forth by the European Association for Psychotherapy:

Total Minimum Training: 1,400 hours over at least 4 years postgraduate

  1. Theoretical & Methodological Training:
    500 hours minimum
    – Covers psychological theory, modality-specific methods, ethics, and research

  2. Clinical Practice (Practical Training):
    950 hours minimum
    – Includes client work, skills training, and case discussions

  3. Supervision:
    150 hours minimum
    – Provided by qualified supervisors in the same modality

  4. Personal Psychotherapy (Own Therapy):
    250 hours minimum
    – Individual or group; ideally in the trainee’s modality

  5. Training Level:
    Postgraduate (after a relevant academic or professional qualification)

  6. Standards Compliance:
    – Must align with the Strasbourg Declaration on Psychotherapy (1990) and must be accredited by the local NAO (National Accrediting Organization); pending NAO accreditation may be accepted due to procedural differences in different countries.

In addition to the above requirements, all trainers/educators and supervisors must meet ACMP’s criteria for certification, which are aligned with the standards of the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP) and complemented by any national legislation regulating the practice of psychotherapy, as well as the rules and regulations of the relevant National Awarding Organization (NAO).

For any future supervisor and/or educator to be accredited by ACMP, the following qualifications must be fulfilled:

  1. Academic Qualification

    • The applicant must hold a postgraduate degree at the MSc level or higher.

    • The applicant must be a certified as a psychotherapist in their country of residence.

    • The applicant must be a holder of the European Certificate for Psychotherapy issued by EAP.

  2. Clinical Experience

    • The applicant must have a minimum of five years of extensive and diverse clinical experience.
      This experience must consist solely of independent clinical practice undertaken after obtaining certification as a psychotherapist, acquiring a professional license (where applicable), and being formally registered with their NAO.

  3. Training Background

    • The applicant must either:
      a) be affiliated with an institution currently accredited by ACMP, or
      b) have previously completed their supervisor and/or educator training within such an institution and obtained appropriate certification.

    • At present, all supervisor and educator training programs are conducted exclusively within ACMP - accredited training institutions. These programs must include at least:

      • A minimum of 600 hours of theoretical study,

      • Formal evaluation through appropriate oral and/or written examinations, and

      • At least 200 hours of supervised supervision and/or didactic teaching practice.

  4. Grandparenting Procedure

    • ACMP reserves the right to confer supervisor and/or educator status through a grandparenting procedure.
      This procedure may be applied only to highly experienced practitioners who have made significant contributions to the field through both practical and theoretical work at an international level and whose work demonstrates a clear and well-documented commitment to constructivism and meaning-centered approaches.

  2. Training organization registration documents and statute

  3. CVs, diplomas and certificates for each trainer and supervisor who will participate in the training program.
