Who we are

The Association for Constructivism and Meaning-Centered Practices (ACMP) was founded in 2025 by a group of European psychotherapists, counselors, academics, and coaches. United by a shared commitment to constructivist thought, our aim is to promote constructivist and meaning-centered approaches across diverse fields and to ensure high standards of quality and competence in constructivist training centers throughout Europe.

Constructivism has long shaped both psychological and philosophical thought, offering a framework in which meaning is understood as actively created rather than passively received. Its influence spans diverse fields, from psychotherapy and life coaching to education, sociology, and political theory, where the emphasis on interpretation, narrative, and perspective-taking has opened up new ways of understanding human experience. Despite this rich and longstanding tradition, constructivist theorizing and practice have not been accompanied by an equally strong tradition of organizing. With the formation of ACMP, we aim to address this gap, at least at the European level, by fostering collaboration, dialogue, and visibility among practitioners and scholars. On the global scale, the George Kelly Society continues to bring together those committed to the development and application of personal construct psychology, offering a home for those who see theory as a tool for human understanding.

Our goals are to:

  • Promote constructivist thinking and practices, along with other meaning-centered approaches, in disciplines such as psychology, psychotherapy, counseling, coaching, and philosophy.

  • Accredit various training programs across Europe by aligning them with established standards of practice, including those of the ACMP, and by offering trainer and supervisor certification to individuals who meet our criteria. We are committed to supporting courses, programs, individuals, and training institutions that uphold the highest professional standards.

  • Bring together constructivist training institutes across Europe and support them in maintaining high-quality education and professional standards in line with those set by relevant regulatory bodies—most notably the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP).

  • Facilitate the opening of new constructivist training center in European countries that don’t have training centers or where constructivist thinking hasn’t yet taken root.

  • Apply for and obtain EWAO (European Wide Accrediting Organization) status with the EAP, further legitimizing constructivism and other meaning-making practices as scientifically grounded and recognized psychotherapeutic modalities.
